Dubai Buries Cars Under Torrents of Rain as Gulf Reels from 'Rain Bomb'

Rare Downpour Unleashes Flash Floods

A Year's Worth of Precipitation Dumps On UAE City

Dubai, United Arab Emirates - Heavy thunderstorms dumped an entire year's worth of rain on Dubai on Tuesday, unleashing devastating flash floods that have left roads submerged and stranded vehicles. The city has been battered by the heaviest rainfall in 75 years, with over 142mm (5.59 inches) recorded by the end of the day.

Videos released by Saudi Arabia's state media outlet Al Arabiya showed the tarmac at Dubai International Airport covered in torrents of water, with planes grounded and flights canceled. According to authorities, more than 270 flights were disrupted on Wednesday due to the extreme weather.

"It was one of the most horrific situations I have ever experienced," said a resident of Dubai. "The roads were completely flooded and impassable, and the rain was coming down so hard that it was difficult to see anything."

The intense downpour has caused widespread flooding across Dubai and nearby Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia and Oman. Authorities have issued warnings urging residents to stay indoors and avoid driving due to hazardous conditions.
